Since 2019, the niche yet globally recognized company has been developing ultrasound solutions for monitoring production processes, measuring liquid levels, and detecting material defects. These technologies, developed in Lithuania, not only address industrial challenges but also open up new possibilities in the energy, chemical, medical, and construction sectors.

"We started with the idea of how ultrasound could meet the needs of industry and step by step developed a fully certified product that, with the support of the digitization center, is now successfully entering international markets," says Dr. Samaitis. Today, the Lithuanian-made product is CE-certified, enabling its sale across the European Union. Ulsontech solutions have garnered interest from railway, manufacturing, and oil companies operating in Europe and Asia.

Dr. Samaitis first envisioned the use of ultrasound for non-invasive measurements during his doctoral studies at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). Later, while working at the Ultrasound Research Institute, he and his colleagues explored various measurement solutions. The Ulsontech device originated from the creation of an ammonia liquid level meter for a chemical industry company. This unique Lithuanian invention can measure liquid levels in any container without opening it.

"These niche solutions are driven by the opportunity to create something that doesn’t yet exist, the needs of our clients and customers, and scientific curiosity. When working with technology, we often strive to uncover both the commercial and scientific potential of an idea," explains Dr. Samaitis. The Ulsontech project started in 2019–2020, with commercialization taking nearly five years. Today, the innovation is being applied to solve challenges in safety, ecology, and energy efficiency across industries that require remote monitoring, including medicine, construction, manufacturing, and nuclear energy. To date, 10 Ulsontech solutions have been implemented globally.

Refining the Product with Expert Support

According to Dr. Samaitis, Ulsontech’s advanced technology is compact—about the size of a shoebox—making it easy to integrate into control centers of industrial companies. However, there's always room for improvement. The digitization center played a crucial role in enabling the company to develop an enhanced version of the product. With the help of external consultants, the product reached the highest Technology Readiness Level (TRL 9). It is now commercialized and successfully implemented in industrial applications.

"The digitization center helped us address specific challenges during the application phase. We received consultations from highly specialized experts, allowing us to refine the product technologically, programmatically, and functionally," says Dr. Samaitis. The newer version of the product is more accurate, compact, and easier to adapt. In total, around €100,000 has been invested in the development and commercialization of this innovation.

While the company primarily focuses on the European and Asian markets, Dr. Samaitis notes that the market for ultrasound solutions in industry, though important, is very niche. Finding clients in foreign markets is not easy. The support from the EDIH4LT center, especially in connecting with other centers in the European network and decision-makers, was invaluable in expanding internationally.

Digital Innovation Centers Open to Companies from Various Fields

According to Teresa Škutaitė, Head of GreenTech Hub at Innovation Agency Lithuania, these centers operate as consortia that include both business and academic institutions. As a result, experts can offer a wide variety of solutions tailored to the specific needs of each organization or company.

"Any company facing challenges in selecting or applying new digital solutions can seek free consultations at digitization centers. This is a great opportunity for businesses to take bold steps forward with professional assistance. Over the past two years, more than 300 clients have used the services of the EDIH4LT digital innovation center," says Škutaitė.

Dr. Mindaugas Bulota, coordinator of EDIH4LT, adds that the center specializes in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, biotechnology, IT, and financial technology. Both large corporations and smaller companies with limited investment resources, as well as public sector organizations, take advantage of free consultations.

"Most companies initially want to assess their digital maturity and create a roadmap for developing and commercializing innovations. The greatest value of the center lies in providing an environment to test technologies before deciding to invest," says Dr. Bulota.

In later stages, EDIH4LT assists clients in finding external funding sources, implementing new systems, organizing training, and facilitating international expansion. Training programs are particularly popular, with more than 600 participants attending courses organized by the center over the past two years.

",[94,103,112,126
"https://web-prod.inovacijuagentura.lt/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/kosmoso-memorandumas-su-polsa.jpg",0.6669921875,"Lithuania Strengthens Cooperation with Poland and the United States in the Space Sector: Important Memorandums Signed","/en/naujiena/lithuania-strengthens-cooperation-with-poland-and-the-united-states-in-the-space-sector-important-memorandums-signed/",6748,"Lithuania’s space sector continues to strengthen international partnerships and expand cooperation with key players in the global space industry.
