Provision of Short-Term Accommodation Services

Short-term accommodation services are an economic activity through which guests are provided with accommodation and hygiene facilities for purposes other than permanent residence. These services are typically offered for short periods, such as a day or a week, often through platforms such as Airbnb or Booking.com.

From a legal perspective, these services are classified as unclassified accommodation services provided in residential houses, apartments, or rooms, and are not subject to a minimum number of rooms requirement.

In Lithuania, this sector is regulated by the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (SCRPA), which is responsible for the registration and supervision of accommodation service providers. Individuals or businesses wishing to provide these services legally must submit an official notification of their activity to the SCRPA.

It is also important to consider the tax aspects of the activity, which are administered by the State Tax Inspectorate (STI).
