As part of its digital strategy, the European Union (EU) aims to regulate artificial intelligence to create better conditions for the development and use of this innovative technology. Artificial intelligence (AI) can bring numerous benefits, including improved healthcare, safer and cleaner transport, more efficient manufacturing, and more affordable and sustainable energy consumption.

The purpose of this Regulation is to improve the functioning of the internal market by establishing a uniform legal framework, particularly for the development, placing on the market, putting into service and use of artificial intelligence systems (AI systems) within the Union, in accordance with EU values, while promoting the uptake of human-centric and trustworthy AI.
