Akmenė, Jonava and Mažeikiai districts to receive EUR 67 million of EU investment: companies are invited to submit projects for funding
Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are invited to submit project implementation plans for EUR 67 million of European Union investment. The call launched by the Innovation Agency aims to attract sustainable local and foreign investment with high job creation potential to the municipalities of Akmenė, Jonava and Mažeikiai. Companies can submit their project implementation plans by 11 December 2023, 5:00 p.m.

“We want to actively promote sustainable investment in the Lithuanian regions, especially in Akmenė, Mažeikiai and Jonava. We invite entrepreneurs to actively seize the opportunity to invest and create new jobs, thus contributing to regional development. Sustainable investment is the way of the future, creating more opportunities for Lithuania,” says Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

Funding will be allocated to develop sustainable activities and staff training. The minimum amount of funding available to eligible applicants is EUR 2.05 million and the maximum is up to EUR 8.5 million. 60–80 per cent of eligible costs may be financed, depending on the size and activity of the company.

“The regions of Akmenė, Jonava and Mažeikiai are among the regions where the transition to a climate-neutral economy could have the greatest negative impact if they fail to adapt properly to changes. However, these are the regions with high potential for growth and development through sustainable investment and job creation. European Union investment focused on sustainable economic activities, the promotion of small and medium-sized businesses and the creation of viable jobs can give a boost. We invite companies not to miss the opportunity to receive funding for their projects and become part of positive change in the regions,” says Vaida Lapinskienė, Head of Public Investment Division of the Innovation Agency.

Ms Lapinskienė believes that by attracting sustainable investment the costs related to construction, installation of engineering networks, acquisition of necessary equipment, furniture or patents can be financed. In addition, employee training, refresher courses and related costs, such as renting premises and equipment, are also financed for companies investing in production or services.

At least 20 sustainable jobs must be created and maintained during the implementation of the project and for at least three years after project completion.

Funding may be granted for investment in activities that meet the criteria for sustainable activities. These are activities that contribute to mitigating climate change, adapting to its effects, saving and protecting water and marine resources, moving towards a circular economy, preventing and controlling pollution, protecting and restoring biodiversity and ecosystems.

More information on the call and the conditions for funding will be available at a remote training session for applicants on 24 October 2023, at 10:00 a.m. During the training, experts from the Innovation Agency will present the possibilities of the measure and answer any questions.
