The podcasts’ creator and science journalist Goda Raibytė promises that when listeners hear once, they will want more and more: so many interesting stories about gene editing, hormones, addiction, microbiome, fight against COVID-19, research into cancer and neurodegenerative diseases will be told by participants of the podcasts – the most prominent representatives of the Lithuanian life sciences sector.
“Lithuanian life sciences leaders, professors, researchers and entrepreneurs deserve to talk much and loudly about themselves. Their ideas change the world, and the innovative products they develop make their way to international markets. In the podcasts, we will talk about everything that is related to life in the broadest sense: how to maintain life and how to improve it. A human being is a body and a brain, so in order to know ourselves, we need to be more aware of how we operate or not. This is a universal theme that is important to everyone in the world. Life sciences have a significant impact on a lot of areas of life, but especially health, medicine, the environment in which we live and the food we eat,” says presenter Raibytė.
The podcasts will consist of ten episodes and will be broadcast until October. The idea of creating a programme about Lithuania’s life sciences sector came in preparation for Life Sciences Baltics, the largest life sciences forum in the Baltic States, which will take place on 20-24 September this year, virtually.
The Life Sciences Baltics forum, organised every two years, aims to be much more than just an event that gathers to hear the latest developments. We want this to be a place to exchange ideas and develop them further, outside the event. The podcasts also expand the area of communication and exchange of ideas, serving as a platform for Lithuanian life sciences not only to speak out, but also to be heard by engaged listeners. The success of the sector in recent years is not a coincidence, but the result of many years of work,” says Daina Kleponė, managing director of Enterprise Lituania.
In the first episode of the podcasts, Dr Urtė Neniškytė, neuroscientist at Vilnius University Life Sciences Centre, talks about ongoing research and breakthroughs in the field of neurosciences, and shares three important tips aimed at promoting effective brain use. The podcast also discusses the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, which will soon open in Vilnius.
